DIY Cascading Bridal Bouquet
Cascade bouquets are once more the elevation of mode, sending many DIY brides into a panic. Somehow making your ain mitt-tied bouquet doesn't seem besides difficult, but making your ain cascade boutonniere . . . surely that's a recipe for disaster?
Thankfully, that isn't the case. As long as you have the right tools, it's perfectly possible to make a cascade bouquet using silk or fresh flowers.
Necessary Materials
The tools you'll need vary depending on whether you plan to use fresh or fake flowers.
For a fresh blossom bouquet, you'll need:
- A boutonniere holder
- A holder for the bouquet holder
- Fresh flowers and leafage (virtually bouquets use between 15 and l flowers)
- Storage buckets (tall buckets are best)
- Bloom food
- Ribbon (to accent the bouquet or terminate the handle)
- Scissors or secateurs (to cutting the stems)
- Decorative accents (jewelled collywobbles, decorative wire, etc.)
- Floral glue
For a bouquet made of silk flowers, you'll demand:
- A bouquet holder
- A holder for the bouquet holder
- Silk flowers and foliage
- Ribbon
- Wire cutters or secateurs
- Decorative accents (jewelled butterflies, decorative wire, etc.)
How to Make a Cascade Bouquet With Silk Flowers
The major trouble with silk flowers is exactly the same equally their major advantage—they're artificial. Artificial can be good; information technology means you lot can make your bouquet well in advance and piece of work at information technology until you become information technology but the way you desire it. Artificial can also be bad if the final bouquet looks truly plastic and fake (unless that's what y'all wanted).
Cull High-Quality Silk Flowers
I way to better the look of your bouquet is to choose your foliage carefully. Some silk foliage looks really actually false. The back is clearly plastic and not even the aforementioned color as the front end. Don't use this sort of leaf. Either buy the more realistic kind (yeah, it's more expensive) or do what I do and add together some real foliage to your fake flower bouquet.
Or Add a Few Fresh Flowers to the Mix
Many ferns last really well out of water, you can buy a potted plant and snip off bits, then add together them to your bouquet. They won't concluding for weeks, just they will last for a few days. If it'south a real problem you tin can purchase picks which include a plastic tube. Y'all fill the tube with water, identify the leafage in that and and then add the pick to the bouquet.

Working With Silk Flowers: Some Golden Rules
- Think that plastic stems are usually straight. Natural stems are rarely straight. If you want your bouquet to look natural, accept warm hands and curve the stems, mayhap a little to the left, then a little to the right. Gentle bends will make your faux stems and flowers expect far more similar the real matter.
- Beware of one-bloom, one-color bouquets. Because the flowers are fake they will be identical, and this will be very obvious. If y'all create the sort of boutonniere where but the blossom heads are visible information technology will wait stiff and fake unless you lot buy the very very best 'real touch' flowers. These look convincingly real, but sadly still identical, so when working with imitation flowers, endeavour to mix varieties to make your bouquet look more convincing.
- Consider painting your silk flowers. Take a look at some genuine roses and you'll find the color often varies within a bloom, within a bush and even within a petal. Yous tin can mimic this by painting white silk flowers with silk paints, and as soon equally you do, your flowers will lose their artificially identical appearance. Pale blush and shell pinkish can do wonders for a white rose, and yous can add together brilliant reddish accents to tulips to create the amazing colors of the parrot tulip.
How to Build Your Silk Bouquet
Using a bouquet holder makes the whole procedure a lot simpler. Place the bouquet holder in something to hold it steady, I find a wine bottle works well, but you can likewise use a vase with a fairly narrow top.
Footstep i: Organize Your Leafage
Beginning sorting out your leafage. You'll utilise it to build the shape of the bouquet. You lot'll usually need long, trailing leaf or flowers to requite you the cascade, simply just as in the picture at the top of this article, you can use trails of ribbon or trails of wire, or even trails of beads; it'south really upwards to you lot.

Pace 2: Familiarize Yourself With the Bouquet Holder
Await at the bouquet holder and call back of information technology equally the face of a clock. To the right are numbers i to 5, with half dozen at the lesser. 7 to xi are on the left going upwards, and 12 is correct at the top.
Stride 3: Decide on the Dimensions for Your Bouquet
Cut two pieces of foliage the aforementioned length to define the full height of your bouquet. Cut one slightly shorter to define the height and 1 longer, this will ascertain the length. If you are working with silk flowers, remember to make the stems wait more natural earlier yous insert them.
Step 4: Begin Adding Flowers and Filler to the Holder
Add the two stems the same size to the holder at 3 and 9 o'clock. Add the shorter stem at 12 o'clock, and the longer, trailing stem, at half-dozen o'clock.
Add filler flowers between the foliage yous've already used and add a piffling more leaf to create a sort of frame for the important flowers.
Pinkish and lilac, merely with a stiff lime light-green contrast.

How to Cull Your Colors
The colors you choose for your flowers are crucial. Spend a lot of time on this. Most online wholesale floral stores publish a lot of information about the colors of the flowers. Many brides choose an all-white or all-ivory scheme. If that's what appeals to you, don't forget foliage. Leaves are the natural background for flowers; they'll help your white flowers be noticed against your white dress.
Be sure to include some naturally cascading flowers where blooms occur along the length of a stem. Using individual flowers (freesias are popular) to form a cascade is perfectly possible, but involves wiring and taping. If y'all'd similar to acquire virtually that aspect of floristry, take a expect at the links department for more than information.
Monochromatic bouquets, where the flowers are all one color (simply frequently different shades, shapes and textures) are very popular with brides. If you're looking for an unusual colour combination, say yellow and black, it's often more than effective to add something bogus, like wire, ribbon or megabeads, in the black color, rather than expect for a blackness flower. This is specially true where blueish accents are required; there are very few genuinely blue flowers.
How to Make the Cascade
Be sure to include some naturally cascading flowers where blooms occur along the length of a stalk. Using individual flowers (freesias are popular) to form a cascade is perfectly possible, but involves wiring and taping. If you'd like to learn nearly that aspect of floristry, take a look at the links department for more than information.
Orchids are particularly useful for cascades, cull from dendrobiums, oncidium orchids, mokara or aranthera orchids, all have many blooms forth a unmarried stem. An culling is to make the cascade entirely from leafage and mix in some long-stemmed flowers. Try trails of variegated ivy Delphiniums are perfect for white, blue and violet bouquets, but watch the video carefully and you'll see that florists employ glue at the cease of the procedure, some long-stemmed flowers can exist pretty heavy, and you don't want them to fall out!.

Tin can You Put Sunflowers in a Cascade?
Sunflowers are usually seen in round bouquets, but this video shows the aforementioned technique, the creation of a frame of deep greenish foliage, while sunflowers are placed in to create a delightfully brilliant, cheerful pour boutonniere, the pour is achieved past the leafage and the add-on of some dancing lady (oncidium) orchids. Means to Save on Your Nuptials Flowers
Encounter the links section for the names of several online suppliers of wholesale flowers, but you may discover you have to purchase more than flowers than you need for a unmarried boutonniere. If you're not planning to make bridesmaids or maid-of-accolade bouquets, raid your neighbours' gardens, visit the local supermarket or even your local florist. Some local supermarkets can order sure flowers for yous if they know in accelerate, just exist sure you tin can continue the flowers fresh. Y'all tin can too go to your local florist and ask them to order flowers for you.
Call back yous can get foliage from pot plants, you lot don't accept to buy huge bunches.
If you like roses, endeavour spray roses. They add a certain style to the bouquet and are cheaper than the regular kind.
Don't forget foliage and filler flowers, a bouquet shouldn't just be a selection of flower heads. In a pour, you lot should mix textures, especially if you're not mixing colors. Foliage and fillers cost a lot less than the chief, focal flowers.
What about adding fruit? Yes, you would want to wire them, simply it's non difficult. Cull colorful lemons, limes, tangerines or even pocket-sized apples or cherries to add to your bouquet.
Can't afford orchids to make the trail of the cascade? Cheque out our picture where the designers from Smither Haven made the trails for their gorgeous lilac bouquet from wire. If you don't like the await, you tin can add together trails of beads to give your bouquet the 'cascade' look, or what about feathers? Yes, we have a video on that, too!
Some brides make their own bouquets because they're looking for something truly dissimilar. When you pattern for yourself you can actually go to town. Hither's an example of a long trailing bouquet made from stunning white orchids and David Austen roses.
Personally I'thousand not convinced past the mixture of cream and white, but I adore the feathers and the stunning shape. The blazon of bouquet holder she uses is cracking inside a glass vase where the transparent stalk will but disappear, and then it'southward useful for table centers and arrangements, non just for bouquets!

Reasons to Make Your Own Bouquet
People presume a DIY bride is trying to save money, simply in that location are other reasons to brand your ain bouquet. I carried a beautiful boutonniere of orchids and freesia to my registry office wedding, merely when information technology came to the religious service, I was enormously disappointed. I had hoped for a cascade bouquet in white, with lots of foliage and a few very delicate pinkish flowers. What I got was a strange long-wired bouquet of carnations with more wire and record than flowers—not at all what I had in mind!
If yous are going away to somewhere where you don't know the florist, or you won't accept time to describe what you desire, you may be better to make your own and avert a disappointment which could spoil your twenty-four hour period.

I'd use the largest of the oasis bouquet holders every bit cascade bouquets tend to be quite total. Trailing flowers and foliage can also be quite heavy, so you might want to take a await at floral gum to lock the stems into the foam.

Thanks for your comment. Personally I prefer cascades to posies or manus tied bouquets, only it actually depends on the apparel you choose. If the front is obviously, a cascade is ideal, but if your apparel has detailed embroidery, for example, then something smaller may be better, or perhaps a different style entirely, like a scepter, wand or overarm bouquet.
